What is a Newsgroup?

A newsgroup is an Internet service that uses ordinary email to allow members of a group to easily send emails to everyone in the same group at the same time.  Newsgroups are very popular on the net. Typically, these are used to announce things broadly or to discuss issues of interest.

A newsgroup provides a platform from which we can send a message and have all the members receive it instantly, or the next time they read their email. We can announce events, last minute changes, request help for work crews, notify when sign up sheets are posted, remind members to send in their forms or contracts, etc.

Members will have a place for discussions and suggestions and getting help for each other (e.g. I need a crew for Wednesday, or can anyone show me how to repack a stuffing box).

Ground Rules

To ensure that this remains a friendly group, there are some ground rules:

  • This group is limited to members of MCC and their friends and families.
  • Members are free to express themselves on any subject that is related to MCC, sailing, and boating. For discussion on other subjects, please join another group.
  • Messages should use language, tone and content that is appropriate to the decorum of our Club.
  • No commercial use is allowed although members are allowed to put up "for sale" notices of their personal boat or equipment.
  • Transgressors may be disconnected from the newsgroup without notice.
